1000 Massachusetts Avenue, NW

Akridge managed a major expansion and renovation to the Cato Institute's iconic DC headquarters building in 2010. The project nearly doubled the size of the facility with the addition of expanded office space, a new 200-seat auditorium, conference and classroom facilities, a fitness center, a library, and a rooftop terrace. With architecture provided by Gensler and Clark Construction serving as general contractor, Akridge managed demolition of a smaller building to the south, expansion onto that property, and the addition of a seventh story to the structure, which encompasses approximately 76,000 square feet. Akridge also coordinated with Cato to meet the needs of its staff, which occuppied the building throughout the renovation.
