1401 New York Avenue, NW

1401 New York Avenue, NW, with its White House views, is built on a site bought at public auction by the original owners, the National Food Processors Association (NFPA). Under a joint venture agreement between NFPA and the Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company, Akridge was hired to provide comprehensive development and asset management services. Completed in 1983, the 300,000-gross-square-foot project included complex HVAC, mechanical, and design considerations to accommodate NFPA's laboratory and testing facility.

This project led to the subsequent development by Akridge of the old NFPA headquarters site at 1133 Twentieth Street, NW for Northwestern Mutual Life Insurance Company in the heart of Washington's Central Business District.
